Wings Financial Credit Union: $300 New Member Bonus + $100 Refer-a-Friend

Updated new member bonuses. Wings Financial Credit Union continues to expand aggressively with a $300 checking bonus plus a doubled $100 refer-a-friend bonus for new members (along with some other promotions). Please note that each bonus has its own separate set of requirements.

Here are their official membership requirements, but anyone can join Wings Financial via partner organization (Wings Financial Foundation). When I joined, they even paid the $5 membership fee for that partner organization on my behalf. I did experience a hard credit check, which is (unfortunately) common amongst credit unions.

$300 Checking Bonus

  • Join Wings and open a new checking account by 12/31/25.
  • One offer per person; valid for U.S. residents only. Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must use promo code WINGS25 at account opening.
  • Within 60 days of account opening, have recurring Qualified Direct Deposit(s) totaling at least $3,000 to earn the $300 bonus.
  • Complete at least 5 net PIN or signature-based debit card or credit card transactions over $25 each on your Wings Visa Debit Card.
  • Enroll in Wings digital banking.
  • Enroll in eDocuments. You must do this manually after logging into your account online, and they will send you an e-mail confirmation afterward. Enrollment in eDocuments must also be active on the Bonus Payout Date.

$100 Refer-a-Friend Checking bonus

  • Register your information at member’s referral link (that’s mine). I have already registered on my end, and successfully referred members in the past. This form is independent of the $300 bonus above and does not require a promo code, and was stackable for me. I recommend you register your information at this link first, and then open the accounts with the proper promo code from above added.
  • Become a Wings Financial member and open a Share Savings Account (minimum balance of $5.00 required)
  • Open a new Wings Checking account (First Class or High-Yield).
  • Enroll in eDocuments. You must do this manually, and they will send you an e-mail confirmation afterward.
  • Complete one (1) direct deposit of $1,000 or more into new checking account OR complete five (5) debit card purchase transactions of $25+ each. (ATM transactions excluded.)
  • Both referring and referred parties will receive a $100 Visa Reward card mailed to them upon completion. Wings has fulfilled this referral bonus as promised for me in the past, stacking with the new checking bonus.

  1. Jonathan,
Where did you find information about balance transfer fees for a credit card?

  2. Coopers_Dad says

One of the advantages of a credit union is the personalized service they offer. However, my experience applying for membership and opening new accounts has been very slow and manual once I got past the online application submission. Several back-and-forth cycles of emails with Wings to get approved for membership. and several more back-and-forths to apply for a credit card (they’ve got a great no-fee, 12-months-no-interest balance transfer offer currently). Telephone hold times are 5-10 minutes for every call. I’m eager to earn and receive the rewards described above, but this has been a very slow and manual process compared to many other opportunities publicized by My Money Blog. Set your expectations accordingly!

  3. Application asks for a bonus code – which one should be used here?

    • There is no bonus code for this offer, you just have to open it during the month of May and they will auto-apply the promotion. I asked Wings FCU about it directly.

  4. They did a hard credit inquiry for opening a checking account. I’d have stayed away if I knew.

    • Cooper’s Dad says

Sorry you didn’t expect a hard pull. Jonathan is consistent in pointing out that most credit unions do pull hard credit when opening new accounts and his post about Wings Financial (I’ve joined) did as well.

With rates dropping, was about to look at best CD rates and came here first. Glad I did, I’ll see if I can snag this and also do a CD here. With a fraud alert on my credit reports, not always successful in opening, but hopefully here I will be! Thanks!

  6. The current terms state that “Note, Direct Deposit must also be active on the Bonus Payout Date,” which is currently 1/17/25.

The transfer limits might be nasty, however:

“Outgoing ACH External Transfer Limits are as followed: $2,500 Daily and $6,000 Monthly”

From their “AUTHORIZATION TO TRANSFER TO ANOTHER FINANCIAL INSTITUTION FROM WINGS (ACH CREDIT)” PDF. (There’s a PDF?! for this?)

Doctor of Credit post has it has: “Wing credit union push and pull $2500” in 2022.

For certificates, early withdraw penalty: “Term less than 24 months = Loss of amount equivalent to 6 months’ dividends (180 days)”

I guess a possible workaround in 2024 (ha) is to use paper checks to get money in/out of the account. You get a box free:

“3The first box of checks is free (shipping not included) and must be ordered by phone or in person. Future orders may be ordered online. This offer does not affect Wings’ current policy of waiving the check printing fees (one box per year; shipping not included) for members age 65 and over.”

I guess I’m used to SoFi million a day ACH limit, so these kinds of paltry limits feel obtuse and unexpected.

  9. Thanks for this info! I just used the referral link (thanks Jonathan!) and then signed up for an account. They did ask for SSN but then also stated during the application process that they would not be performing a credit check. So, maybe they’ve changed their policy?

I was confused about the lack of ability to make a Platinum Savings account online, but a rep stated that to do so requires them to be contacted, you can’t do it by yourself. They only allow you to make a High Yield Savings account on your own, which isn’t as attractive. As you noted, the 9 month CD is a good alternative anyway, particularly of Fed rate drops will trickle down soon, so might go for that instead.

A happy note on this, if you’re doing a credit card bonus or whatever you *can* fund up to $1,500 from a credit card. It just went through. It does use biometrics to identify you, so if you’re not into photographing your face and your ID, I’d steer clear of this.

Overall, this was one of the easiest application workflows I’ve ever used.

  11. Jason Boxman says

And the transfer limits on the Wings side, from the web UI:

    “Outgoing Transfers – $2,500 per day, $6,000 in a rolling 30-day period, Incoming Transfers – $15,000 per day, $15,000 in a rolling 30-day period”

  12. Jason Boxman says

“Congratulations! Based on the promotional requirements you completed; you’ve qualified for the new member bonus which was deposited into your Wings checking account as of 1/16/2025.”

    Thank you again for this!
