No Monthly Goal Re-cap for August

I just realized I didn’t set myself a monthly goal for August. My last monthly goal was for July for setting up a budget, which I did. Looking over August, I guess an appropriate goal was to decide on how to handle my 401k rollover, and execute it, which I did. I need to get back on track for September.

Hmm.. future goals… I’m satisfied with the way my retirement investments are set up right now… one focus will be on maximizing the return on my cash without adding too much risk as my time horizon is about 18 months. Also, I am investing time into learning more about the mechanics of real estate investing… as well as learning more about stocks and bonds like options and such. So many things out there to learn.

Monthly Goal Due 7/31: Thorough Budget Analysis

Sorry for the lack of updates, I’m behind on e-mails, internet reading, and deleting all this darn trackback spam. It’s like when you put in your two weeks notice, they want to cram as much work in as possible in that time, finishing up current projects, passing off other projects to others, training other workers to do those projects, and so on. Don’t worry, I’ve got lots of ideas floating around in my head about things to do with my money, to save money, to make more money, etc.

Anyways, I just wanted to document this goal: I’ve been using Money 2005 to track our spending for the last few months, so I need to mine that data and do a budget analysis of what we spend vs. what we will soon be making on one income, and see how the outlook is.

Net Worth vs. Time: My Total Portfolio Historical Performance

One thing I really like about personal finance software is the ability to see performance over time. So I decided to plot my net worth over the time I have been tracking it. I only started this blog in December 2004, but I also remembered that I calculated my net worth back in June at $30k. Here are my results:

Monthly Goal due 4/30: Microsoft Money & Budgeting

Since I only have a week left(!), I’ll make this month’s goals very brief.

1) I want to have all of my financial accounts added and updated in Microsoft Money 2005.

2) Very very roughly, I want to see where our money is going each month.

3) (From last month) Review my W-4 Withholdings and minimize the overpayment for this year.

March Monthly Goal Update: Taxes & More

Ok, so I’m chronically late on my monthly goals. Briefly, here is the status of the goals that I set for March:

1) “File taxes for myself and the missus…”

Done. It was a pain doing taxes for 2 states for two separate people and a joint federal tax return and trying to divy up all those incomes and figure out what’s taxable, but I think I did it right… Anyways, we ended up getting about a $1,000 refund. So in a sense, Mickey Mouse took my tax refund.
