Fill Up Your Gas Tank Now

Not to be insensitive (I’m a native Texan), but if you’ve got a car with a big gas tank I’d fill it up now in case Hurricane Rita also makes a direct hit. $3 gas may sound like a good deal shortly. Various reports even mention the possiblity of $5 gas. Don’t forget to try GasBuddy.com too.

  1. Another site that also tracks gas prices is GasPriceWatch.com. Both GasBuddy.com and GasPriceWatch.com rely on their users to spot gas prices. They require you to sign up as a spotter, but they don’t require privacy-invading disclosures. One of them requests, but doesn’t require, a name and address.

Once you have an account as a spotter, both of them let you select your favorite stations. That makes submitting updates much, much easier. Having a list of 20 stations that I drive by from time to time is much faster than searching through their entire databases.

Please, help yourself and everyone else using those sites by submitting updates. Even if you only supply the price you paid at a single station when you filled up, it is a piece of data we might not have had otherwise.

  2. Another good one I like is the AAA Fuel Price Finder. Apparently, the difference with this one and many other tracker sites, is that this one doesn’t rely on spotters, but uses a system of credit card/debit card receipts instead. It’s worked really well here in MN.

  3. Good stuff, thanks for the new sites!

  4. This is why gas jumps $1 overnight. Idiots like you recommend that people go out and fill up their cars making a run on the available supplies.

  5. It is now over $3.20 a gallon as of today.
